Football season is here like it or not. I’m always on the look out for recipes for my husband to enjoy during a game. Last month I tested out making some chicken wings. I found the recipe I wanted to try here at The Paleo Mom website. I was in the middle of doing a Whole30 challenge at the time so I couldn’t have honey which is in this recipe. That meant he would be eating them all by himself most likely. My approval average is much better with the kids then with him so I was kind of worried that I would end up with a bunch of wings he wouldn’t eat and I couldn’t.
I have actually started seeing it in more and more places locally and you can get it here here through amazon but the best deal on it is at The Thrive Market for $4.45. Thrive is a membership company but it has a ton of great stuff and awesome prices. Browse through and price compare then decide if your family would benefit from it. I use Coconut Aminos in a lot of recipes, it’s a great soy sauce replacement! They also have great Paleo wraps made from just coconut which our family loves.
I was so busy thinking about taking pictures and maybe just maybe too much texting with a friend, that I totally just threw all the ingredients together and put them into a bag to marinate and threw in the fridge..
About 45 minutes later I realized…I had NOT done what the recipe called for.. You’re suppose to “Heat honey, lemon juice, water, coconut amino’s , vinegar, garlic and ginger in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Turn heat down to low once it starts to simmer and let simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.” then put it in the fridge to marinate it. UGH…..I had just mixed it up and thrown it in the fridge without even heating it.. So I totally remade the sauce. I picked the chicken out of the first bag and put the heated sauce on it, let it cool a few minutes and back in the fridge it went..lesson learned…I really didn’t want them to taste terrible for him and it really wasn’t a huge fumble ( haha ..like my football pun ) Who knows if it would have made a huge difference but I didn’t want to find out.
And here is the finished wings ! My husband loved them. So we won the game in the end ! (sorry I can’t help myself now )
The reason I told this long story is because you have good days and bad days in this real food journey . I don’t follow directions right sometimes and it still turns out ok or if I do follow it perfectly and think they are going to love it ..AND they don’t.. I may think it is AWESOME and they think it’s a dud…
But at the end of the day I know I tried my best to get the best quality foods I could in them. I want you guys to see that cooking from scratch or cooking with multiple food allergies that limit what you can use is really not that big a deal.. Now if we talk about cooking distracted or with a 3 year old helping, that’s trouble!! Wait till you see my next post to see more of that kinda stuff!
Have fun watching some football if that’s your thing…If not just enjoy some yummy wings with quality ingredients
